Wilkinsons Point Sale Complete

The Glenorchy City Council has sold the Derwent Entertainment Centre to the Tasmanian State Government and surrounding Wilkinson’s Point land to the LK Group.

The news comes after the announcement of a new Tasmanian NBL team, paving the way for the redevelopment of the Wilkinson’s Point Precinct and a major upgrade to the DEC which will be home to the newest NBL team.

The new and improved DEC will put the Tasmanian team in good stead as league rookies, providing a world class space to practice and perform.

LK Group Chairman Larry Kestelman said it was a big day for the NBL and a big day for Tasmania.

State Premier Peter Gutwein has also endorsed the news.

“This is a good deal for the state. It is a good deal for Glenorchy,” he said.

“It will put Tasmania on the national stage again, playing in the NBL.”

Wilkinsons Point will undergo a massive redevelopment to help facilitate not only the new NBL team but a greater range of art, sport and entertainment.

This is a collaboration between sports and art, helping to foster the relationship for the wider community to enjoy the new Wilkinson’s Point and DEC.

Renowned architects Fender Katsaldis and landscape urban design studio Oculus worked in collaboration with the LK Group on a proposed redevelopment design. The site sits south of MONA, also designed by Fender Katsaldis, and under the proposed deal will house a hotel, retail, hospitality, sports and additional entertainment facilities.

The Precinct will provide Hobart with plenty of amenities to enjoy, including sports venues for the local community—giving the next generation of NBL stars a place to grow.
